It was a free domain because I won the domain in a domain registrar contest. There was a contest about domain giveaway and I was lucky to won. With the invention of world wide web then the domain was also invented. The first domain that I purchased was a Yahoo domain. First is that you have to have a Yahoo account and it is just easy to sign up for a Yahoo account. You can use it to log-in in the Yahoo small business account. There was a promo last year by Yahoo domain where domain was sold for $1.99 for 1 year contract. So I bought a domain and was able to own a domain for 1 year. It is good to have more than a year contract like 2 years contract or more. There are other domain registrars that sale domains at a lower price for 1 year.

What are great domain registrars?

If you will look for great domain registrars then there are really great few domain registrars. I would like to recommend the following.

I had just listed 5 domain registrars though there are many domain registrars. I had only an experience in two domain registrars which are Yahoo and Namecheap. I don't know about the others but go-daddy is great too. Go-daddy is so far the domain registrar which has most handled domains and in April 2011 they had a record of estimated 36, 500, 000 domain names handled.

So you have to choose what domain registrar you would like to buy your domain. I can say that the 5 domain registrars mentioned are great and reliable. Domain is really important for a business. If it's your first time to purchase a domain then it would be really great experience. You will have to know how to set up a domain and it would just be easy. If you don't know how to set up a domain then you would just have to ask in forum or search online.

Most big business will surely have a domain name like big companies. Schools usually have a domain name and it is usually have a .edu domain extension. If you are an individual then you would usually buy a .com or a .net. There are many domain extensions like a domain extension in USA which is .us or here in our country which is .ph or .com.ph. Somehow for bloggers who use blogspot may think of purchasing a domain and forward it to their blogspot blog. I have a blogspot blog too and I purchase a domain and forward my blogspot blog to the domain that I had bought.
